Covid-19: NY Facing Blood Emergency As Delta Variant Concerns Cause Donations To Drop A blood bank in New York announced a blood emergency as concerns about the spread of the COVID-19 delta variant have led to fewer drives and drop-in donations. The New York Blood Center said on Monday, Aug. 23 that in recent weeks, the Type O blood supply has dropped from a supply of five days to between two and three days and between one to two days. Blood Drives To Be Held In NY In Effort To Save 4-Year-Old Boy With Leukemia A number of blood drives are being held in the area this month in the hope of saving a Long Island 4-year-old with leukemia.  Nassau County resident Ayden Paredes, of Glen Cove, was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia on Feb. 7 of 2021, according to Mark Paredes, Ayden's father.  Ayden has been receiving chemotherapy treatments and blood transfusions since then, but doctors are now saying he needs a blood stem cell/bone marrow transplant to save his life, Mark said. Novak was born on July 28, 1966 and died peacefully on Thursday, April 29 with his wife Clare (McMorris) by his side after a courageous battle with cancer.  Andy, known by many as “Noodle,” was born and raised in Poughkeepsie. He graduated from Poughkeepsie High School in 1984 and was employed by Verizon.  Andy lived in Fort Lauderdale, FL before moving to Peekskill with Clare.  Andy’s short life was full thanks to his loyal friends and family. On Saturday, Aug. 17, a plane crashed into the Bocker family’s Dutchess County home in Union Vale, burning most of Hannah’s body and killing her father, Gerard Bocker. LaGrange MS Students Hold Blood Drive For Classmate Battling Cancer Students at LaGrange Middle School are hosting a blood drive in honor on Thursday, May 3 of their classmate, Emma, a seventh-grader at the school fighting cancer.  The drive will run from 2:15 to 8:15 p.m. in the school gym. This event will help ensure hospitals and patients have access to the life-saving blood they need. Emma is 12 years old and a student at LMS battling a rare renal sarcoma cancer that has spread to other parts of her body. She has undergone multiple rounds of chemotherapy and radiation.
