Hamptons Writer, Arts Advocate Dies At 51, Remembered For 'Brilliant Mind'
Matthew “Dutch” Rooney, a beloved writer, arts patron, and longtime supporter of ballet and opera, died Friday, Aug. 15, at his home in East Hampton. He was 51.
Rooney was born Nov. 11, 1973, in Meadowbrook, Pennsylvania, the son of JoAnn (Wallace) Rooney and the late John Rooney, according to his obituary.
He attended Gwynedd Mercy Academy and The Hill School in Pottstown, Pennsylvania, before earning a Bachelor of Arts degree from New York University and a Master’s from Columbia University, where he won several writing awards.

Nixon Releases Tax Returns: Candidate, Wife Earned $1.9M In 2017
Cynthia Nixon, the “Sex and the City” television star who faces Andrew Cuomo in the Democratic primary for governor has released tax returns showing she and her wife reported income of $1.9 million last year, according to multiple news reports.
The couple donated about $53,000 to a variety of environmental, education, arts and children’s charities as well as homeless shelters and a public library, according to their tax return.
Nixon’s campaign allowed reporters to review the tax records on Friday, May 4.

New $26M Marist Facility Opening Scheduled
Marist College plans to complete a $26 million expansion project at its Steel Plant Studio across Route 9 from its main campus in Poughkeepsie by the fall, according to this report.
Major renovations began last summer at the private college of 6,600 students.
The completed building will house Marist’s fashion and arts and digital media programs including gallery spaces.
The project will triple existing 12,000-square-feet studio and learning space with the new, two-story, 36,000-square-foot addition.
