Police agencies are issuing warnings of a new Apple scam that has been making the rounds targeting iPhone users. A new alert has been issued cautioning that users have been receiving phone calls from fraudsters who make the call from a spoofed number that comes across the screen as “Apple.” According to police, you’re told that your account has been compromised or some other issue exists with your iPhone, laptop or other devices. Scammers are running a sophisticated scheme warning iPhone users that there has been suspicious activity on their iCloud accounts. The new scam involves fraudsters making phony calls posing as Apple support staff. The calls look authentic because an actual Apple support number from a local Apple number and Apple logo will display on the screen. Police are on the lookout and enlisting the help of the public in the search for a female suspect who allegedly opened a Verizon Wireless account using an upstate woman’s personal information, stealing thousands of dollars. Police are investigating a report of fraud after a local worker and his entire office was targeted by a schemer seeking Apple gift cards in Westchester. A resident of Black Birch Lane in Scarsdale reported to police on Sunday afternoon that he had been taken for $700 in gift cards.
