The team completed a stunning run through the Section 1 Class A playoffs with a 55-48 win over Albertus Magnus on Sunday at the Westchester County Center.
"This is an amazing group of athletes and student-athletes and they have a lot to be proud of and a lot to look forward to next season," coach Rodney Headley Jr. said of his team at Tuesday's Board of Education meeting, where the team was honored by the district.
The 11th-seeded Red Devils, who started the season 1-7, knocked off the fourth-seeded Falcons to capture the school’s second section title in three years. The season eventually ended with a loss to Walkill in a state semifinal.
Board of Education President Joseph Urbanowicz said he was proud of the team's accomplishments and of the sportsmanship the girls demonstrated on the court under pressure.
"You had a fantastic season and we are all proud of you and we look forward to seeing you next year," he told the team.
