Peekskill Schools Showcase Athletics With Carnival

PEEKSKILL, N.Y. -- Peekskill's school district will hold a sports carnival on Saturday to show off all the athletic programs the district has to offer.

The event will be held on Torpey Field from noon to 3 p.m., with an auction of vintage and retro team uniforms across the street at the administration building. All proceeds will go toward the Jason Paige Wellness and Fitness Center.

Peekskill Athletic Director and state champion basketball coach Lou Panzanaro said the carnival is an opportunity to introduce children to new sports offered by the district before they get to the high school.

"The idea is that we want to build participation in our sports, to expose kids to the various sports that we have here when they're in the elementary and middle schools because some of our teams have low numbers and we wanted to create some interest," Panzanaro explained.

The event will feature several sports activities for young people to try their hand at including:

  • Batting cages and pitching with radar gun
  • Lacrosse fastest shot
  • High jump/long jump
  • Football punt/pass/kick
  • Basketball 3-point and foul shooting
  • Soccer skills clinic
  • Volleyball
  • Tennis
