Back-To-School Tailgate Party Kicks Off School Year In Peekskill

PEEKSKILL, N.Y. – The City of Peekskill Police Department and Peekskill City School District are holding a back to school tailgate party Thursday, between noon and 5 p.m. at Peekskill High School.

The event, which coincides with freshman orientation, is part of a collaborative program between the two groups designed to improve relations between the police department and the community, using the high school students as catalysts.

The program, called “Real Talk,” is a series of roundtable discussions held throughout the school year where police officers enter the classroom and engage students in stimulating conversations on any of a number of topics.

It is designed with the goal of building relationships between police officers and students by breaking down barriers and giving students and police the opportunity to see each other from a different perspective.

Thursday’s tailgate party will feature police officers hosting a BBQ cookout for the incoming freshman class and their families. In addition, the day will also feature games and other activities that will present police officers and students with the opportunity to interact in a social and recreational setting.
