Police managed to track down and arrest a Level 2 sex offender on Friday who lied about where he was living.

Andrew Zambrano, 29, notified the Town of Poughkeepsie Police earlier in May that he was moving to an address in the Dunbar Heights neighborhood in Peekskill. The Poughkeepsie police then notified the Peekskill police of the move so they could monitor his whereabouts, police said.

Following the notification, Det. John Marchioni.attempted to verify Zambrano’s reported address, was unable to do so and learned that he had never lived at that address, police said.

Marchioni spent the next three weeks trying to locate Zambrano so that those in the neighborhood where he was actually living could be notified of his presence, police said.

Ultimately, Marchioni was able to track down Zambrano living at 426 Main St. in Peekskill, which is over a mile away from the Dunbar Heights neighborhood, police said.

Zambrano was charged with failing to report his change of address and for violating the terms of his status as a sex offender; both felonies. He was released without bail following his appearance in Peekskill City Court on Saturday.

Peekskill Police Chief Eric Johansen said that the purpose of the New York State Sex Offender Registry is to alert communities of the presence of convicted sexual offenders.

"The fact that Zambrano lied to the Peekskill Police Department about his address defeats the purpose of the registry and will not be tolerated by our department which has been recognized by the State of New York for employing best practices in sex offender management," Johansen said.

According to the Division of Criminal Justice Services, Zambrano sexually abused his victim and had sexual contact with her in September 2013. He was arrested by the Poughkeepsie Town Police Department and sentenced to 90 days in local jail in April last year.
