PEEKSKILL, N.Y. -- City police have ruled out foul play in the pool accident Saturday night that left a White Plains Teen in critical condition.
The unidentified 15-year-old boy is being held at Westchester Medical center in Valhalla, according to Peekskill Police Spokesman Lt. Eric Johansen. The criminal investigation has been closed, he added, and the pool was reopened Sunday at 3 p.m.
"There's really not much left on our end to do," Johansen said.
Police said the White Plains boy and three Peekskill teens entered the Veterans Memorial Pool area at Depew Park at 10:25 p.m. when the municipal pool was closed and unmanned.
During their swim, the White Plains boy required medical attention, which the other teens attempted to give. The boys then flagged down a passerby, who climbed the fence and pulled the White Plains teen from the water. One of the youths dialed 911 resulting in emergency service response.
It was unlikely any charges will be filed against any of the boys involved, Johansen said.
"Outside of the fact that they were trespassing, the incident seems to be a tragic accident," he said.
When asked if further preventive safety measures may be considered at the pool facility, Johansen said that would be a decision for city administrators to make.
"There's already an eight-foot high fence that's locked to prevent intrusion," he said.
Calls to Westchester Medical Center for comment on the victim were not immediately returned.
