Services Set for Sister Mary Felix McKenna, 89

PEEKSKILL, N.Y. – Sister Mary Felix McKenna, a Franciscan Sister of the Atonement at Graymoor, died Aug. 2 at St. Francis Convent in Garrison. She was 89. Sister Mary Felix served as the fourth Grand Marshal for the Peekskill St. Patrick's Day Parade in 1993. 

She was born Margaret "Peggy" Josephine to John and Mary Kelly McKenna in Manorhamilton, County Leitrim, Ireland. Sister Mary Felix joined the Franciscan Sisters of the Atonement in Ireland Sept. 14, 1936. She professed her first vows June 28, 1944, and her final vows Aug. 27, 1949. 

As an atonement missionary, she served in parish and pastoral ministries in Canajoharie and Morrisonville, Hamden, Conn., Camden, N.J. and Milford, Mich. She also served at St. Cecilia's Mission in New York City and in Ireland before returning to Graymoor in 1976 and ministering throughout the Peekskill area. 

She was predeceased by two sisters, Maureen Rooney and Rita McKenna; and two brothers, the Rev. Peter and John McKenna. She is survived by two brothers, Hugh and the Rev. Joseph McKenna; and many nieces and nephews. 

There will be a reception of the body prayer service at 4 p.m. Sunday at Motherhouse Chapel at Graymoor in Garrison. The evening prayer wake service will begin at 7 p.m. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday at Motherhouse Chapel. Dorsey-Carlone Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
