PEEKSKILL, N.Y. Isaac Kweku Nkansah Vanderpuije of Peekskill died June 12. He was 58.
Vanderpuije was assistant vice president at Swiss Re America for almost 15 years, where he also served as a contract specialist in the underwriting, property and casualty departments.
Born March 31, 1954, in Accra, Ghana, he was a son of Francis and Carridor Quaye Vanderpuije. On Sept. 30, 1989, he married Matilda Osei-Bryson in New York City.
Prior to working at Swiss Re America, he worked at Guy Carpenter and Metropolitan Reinsurance in New York City. Vanderpuije was a member of the United Methodist Church of Peekskill, where he was active with its mens group.
He had a love for cooking and was known as the "pancake man" at church breakfasts. He also enjoyed gardening and traveling.
Vanderpuije is survived by his wife of 22 years; a daughter, Makeda Vanderpuije; a son, Samora Vanderpuije; three brothers, Ben Vanderpuije, Emmanuel Vanderpuije and Kwadwo Asmah Vanderpuije; three sisters, Evelyn Bruce, Esther Sullivan and Anna Vanderpujie-Owunne; as well as an uncle, two aunts and many nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law and his mother-in law.
Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at E.O. Curry Funeral Home in Peekskill. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at United Methodist Church of Peekskill. Burial will follow at Rose Hills Memorial Park in Putnam Valley, N.Y.
