What's Happening This Weekend in Peekskill

PEEKSKILL, N.Y. – It's a busy weekend in Peekskill for active outdoor lovers with a 5K race and mountain bike festival leading a busy lineup of events. 

Friday, June 8

  • “Steve Jobs: The Lost Interview” at The Paramount: 7:30 p.m. The film was shot in 1995, 10 years after Jobs had left Apple following a bruising struggle with John Sculley, the CEO he brought into Apple. In the interview, Jobs is said to be witty, outspoken and visionary and already anticipating the digital future that one day he would do so much to make possible. Admission is $9 for the general public. The Paramount Center for the Arts is located at 1008 Brown Street.

Saturday, June 9

  • American Legion Run/ Walk for Heroes 5K: The second annual running of the 5K (3.1 mile) race will once again benefit the Peekskill American Legion Post 274. All proceeds will go to Operation Comfort Warrior, a program that aids wounded soldiers being cared for overseas. Participants will meet at 1024 McKinley Street at 9 a.m. to check in. The race will begin promptly at 10 a.m.
  • Wellness Workshop at Peekskill Middle School: 12 to 1:30 p.m. The workshop is aimed at parents and will consist of cooking demonstrations and a presentation on nutrition. The event is free to attend. Peekskill Middle School is located at 212 Ringgold Street.
  • Gerry Malkin at BeanRunner Cafe: 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. Tenor saxophonist Gerry Malkin has performed with Tito Puente, Lew Soloff, Adam Nussbaum, George Colligan, the Temptations, the Four Tops, Ray Vega and Dave Weckl. Admission is $10. BeanRunner Café is located at 201 South Division Street.
  • The Little River Band at The Paramount: 8 p.m. The Australian band's popular songs include “Cool Change,” “It's a Long Way There,” “Help Is on Its Way,” “Happy Anniversary,” “Reminiscing,” “Lady,” “Lonesome Loser,” “Take It Easy On Me” and “Man On Your Mind.” Tickets range from $25 to 45.
  • The Time Machine at 12 Grapes: 9:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. Songs from The Moody Blues, The Beatles, Hendrix, Heart, Journey, Chicago, Stevie Wonder, Santana, Fleetwood Mac and more. Admission is a $10 entertainment fee, or $5 with a dinner entree. 12 Grapes is located at 12 North Division Street.

Sunday, June 10

  • Fat Tire Festival at Blue Mountain Reserve: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The annual festival will feature guided rides along the trails, prize raffles, live music and bicycling contests. Local guides will lead group rides along the trails for riders both new and experienced. Riders can also compete in a variety of skills competitions, such as a wheelie contest and fast and slow races.  Admission is free and parking is $5. The event will be held rain or shine. All riders are required to wear a helmet for all festival activities. The preserve can be accessed from Welcher Avenue.
  • Unplugged Sunday at 12 Grapes: 6 to 9 p.m. This week's show features the duo of Melissa Frabotta and Phil Rosenstock. They've played at The Bitter End and other prestigious clubs and will be playing a mixture of some of Melissa's own original compositions as well as contemporary cover songs. Admission is free for patrons.
  • No Moves Entertainment's Artist Appreciation Showcase at BeanRunner Cafe: 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. A complete variety show including vocalist Shane Tu Kora from Brooklyn, Majah Stringz, a three-man band from New Jersey, Sensei Paul, martial artist from Bushido Ryu and poet and actor Tom Ray from Yonkers. Doors open at 4:15 p.m. and the show starts promptly at 5 p.m. Admission is $5.
