Stabbing Arrest Tops News In Peekskill This Week

PEEKSKILL, N.Y. -- Here are some of the top stories from this week in Peekskill.

A 29-year-old Peekskill man was arrested Thursday night in connection with a stabbing incident in the 500 block of South Street in Peekskill, police said. Byron Lazaro was arrested and charged with felony second-degree assault and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon Thursday night, police said. The stabbing victim was taken to Westchester Medical Center with what was believed to be non life-threatening injuries. 

Hudson Valley Hospital Center received around 1,000 votes in a contest for the most beautiful hospital in the country, but missed out on the Top 20. Hudson Valley Hospital Center in Cortlandt Manor was recently nominated as a contender for the 20 Most Beautiful Hospitals in the country in a contest organized by healthcare provider Soliant Health. The hospital ranked in the top 30. 

The Peekskill Volunteer Fire Department ended the Fourth of July with a big bang Thursday night. To commemorate independence day in the city, the fire department continued the annual Fourth of July Fireworks Extravaganza that also included a parade in the morning and a free concert in the afternoon.
