PEEKSKILL A city police officer was injured while responding to a domestic assault complaint Wednesday evening. Peekskill Police Officer Matt Basso suffered a shoulder injury while attempting to arrest 27-year-old city resident Ronald Davis at approximately 6:48 p.m. at a private residence on Bernard Street, according to Police Sergeant Ray Henderlong.
Henderlong said Davis had been yelling outside the home of a female acquaintance when an unnamed person placed a complaint call to police. Basso and another officer arrived at the scene soon afterwards but called for backup in dealing with the suspect.
It began with two officers but then multiple officers responded, Henderlong said. Basso was taken to Hudson Valley Hospital Center where he received medical treatment. He is currently out on disability. He will likely be out for a while, Henderlong said.
Davis was arrested and charged with second-degree assault, a class D felony, as well as obstruction of justice and resisting arrest, both misdemeanors, and harassment, a violation. Alcohol is believed to have possibly played a role in the incident, Henderlong said. Davis was scheduled to be arraigned in city court Thursday morning.
