PEEKSKILL, N.Y. -- A major roadway rehabilitation project on Main Street between Route 9 and Conklin Avenue in Peekskill has begun.
The work, which is expected to be completed by the spring of 2013, will include milling and asphalt paving, pavement repairs, curb replacement, curb cuts, bus pad installation, drainage installation and repair and additional repairs. It is under the supervision on Westchester County.
The first two months of work will be done by contractors who will laying down new curbs, said acting City Manager Brian Havranek at Monday's Committee of the Whole meeting.
"That will take place all through the rest of the summer, and paving should not start until sometime in late September or October," Havranek told Common Council members.
The county plans to perform all milling and paving in the overnight hours from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., but Havranek said that changes may have to be made if the noise becomes a nuisance for residents of the senior housing complexes located on the road.
Two way traffic will be maintained throughout the construction with lane shifts occurring as needed. In addition, there will be periodic parking restrictions, which will be denoted with warning signs.
While the county is listing a spring of 2013 finish date for the project, Havranek said it may be completed before that.
"They gave a spring date of completion but that will only be if winter sets in early this year and prohibits paving at the end of October," he said.
