PEEKSKILL, N.Y. The common council will be changing its schedule for next year's meetings in order to reduce redundant or unnecessary meetings, starting with next month.
Due to holiday three day weekends for New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, President's Day and Rosh Hashanah, several Monday meetings are being moved from the normal Monday dates to Tuesday.
"There are five Mondays in January," explained Mayor Mary Foster. "So since we're doing the swearing in on Sunday, we don't have to come back on Tuesday for the Committee of the Whole, she said referring to Sunday, New Years Day.
Foster said that other necessary official business, such as naming an official newspaper and bank, could be done immediately following the swearing in of new common council members Darren Rigger and Kathie Talbot and the council would still have four other weeks to hold its usual four meetings.
The Jan. 16 meeting will be moved to Jan. 17 and the Feb. 20 meeting will be moved to Feb 21. The Sept. 3 meeting will be moved to Sept. 4 and the Sept. 17 meeting will be moved to Sept. 18. A resolution approving the meeting date changes is expected to be voted on by the council at next Monday's meeting.
