Open Beer Leads to Peekskill Felony Drug Arrest

PEEKSKILL, N.Y. -- A Verplanck man rang in the year with a felony drug arrest, according to city police.  

Richard Devitt, 28, of Verplanck was arrested on Jan. 1 at 2:50 a.m. and charged with third-degree criminal possession, a class B felony, and fourth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a class C felony, on the 900 block of Main Street by Police Sgt. John White.

Devitt was seen in possession of an open container of beer by police and was arrested, police said. While Devitt was being searched, police found one bag containing 12 individual baggies of cocaine.

 Devitt was held for arraignment in city court without bail.

 

Other arrests reported by Peekskill Police for the previous week:

Luis Machisaca, 35, of Peekskill, was arrested on Jan. 1 at 3:55 a.m. and charged with second-degree menacing, endangering the welfare of a minor and second-degree unlawful imprisonment, all misdemeanors, on Carhart Avenue by Police Officer Anthony Nappi.  

Machisaca was charged following a domestic altercation in which he threatened his wife with a knife, stabbed the bed that his young child was sleeping on, and refused to allow his wife to leave their bedroom, according to police. Another family member in the house was able to contact police who took an intoxicated Machisaca into custody without incident. He was held for arraignment in city court without bail.

Sergio Naula-Sagray, 29, of Peekskill was arrested on Dec. 31 at 2:35 a.m. for aggravated driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor, at the intersection of Harrison Avenue and Phoenix Avenue by Police Officer Mike Lawrence.

Naula-Sagray was stopped after being observed operating his vehicle the wrong way down Cortlandt Street, a one-way road. Police found he was operating his vehicle while intoxicated after giving a blood alcohol concentration of .24 percent. Naula-Sagray was held for arraignment in city court.
