The Peekskill Fire Department announced its 55th July 4th fireworks celebration will be its last, saying it has become difficult to collect money each year to sustain the parade.

The event costs about $34,000 each year and is funded completely through volunteer efforts. The fire department took over the parade in 1962 from The Area Jaycee's.
