Peekskill's New Depew Park Playground Unveiled

PEEKSKILL, N.Y. -- City and county officials celebrated the re-opening of the newly renovated Depew Park playground Friday evening following a ribbon cutting ceremony.

Mayor Mary Foster was joined by several common council members, Deputy City Manager Brian Havranek and County Legislator and former Peekskill Mayor John Testa. The improvements include the installation of new play equipment, an Americans with Disabilities compliant play structure and safety surface, new benches, tables, drinking fountain, pavilion, lighting and a refurbished concrete patio located adjacent to the play area

The $258,000 project was funded by a $200,000 Westchester County Community Development Block Grant and $58,000 from the city.

“These much needed playground renovations are part of the City’s ongoing efforts to improve the amenities offered in our city parks for the enjoyment of all our residents,” said Peekskill Mayor Mary Foster. “City parks offer passive and active recreational opportunities all year round. Depew Park is a great place to run around the track in spring, swim in our pool during the summer, walk among the colorful trees in autumn, and ice skate during the winter.”

Depew Park is the focal point for recreational sports and physical fitness activities as well as programs and special events for area youth sponsored by the city’s department of parks and recreation and the city School district.

Additional grants have been used to install a new spray pool and playground equipment at Lepore Park, as well as new playground equipment and comfort station upgrades at Riverfront Green Park and renovations to the comfort stations at Depew Park. The city recently opened Peekskill Landing, which sits adjacent to Riverfront Green Park, expanding direct access to the Hudson River.
