PEEKSKILL, N.Y. -- To listen to Daisy Jopling's new CD, you might need your passport.

Jopling, a Peekskill violinist who grew up in England, released "Awakening," on Friday, her first CD of original compositions from Fleur de Sons Classics. The album spans the world of music featuring spirituals, pop, reggae, funk, Irish folk, and even Argentine tango. She performed the album live last September at Paramount Hudson Valley.

Though Jopling is known for her violin, listeners can expect to hear a string orchestra and even a beatbox.

“It took me years of working on myself to gain a new perspective. I realized I have something to say," Jopling said. "I had to learn to stop criticizing or judging those musical ideas. The CD begins in darkness and ends with moments of the greatest hope and joyfulness. Each individual piece is a passage in my own life but I also see it as something we all experience, a universal journey."

Jopling said it was hard to break from the mantra that classical musicians should idolize composers who lived hundreds of years ago.

"I'm confident in my music," Jopling said. "I've let go of the shackles of my upbringing. I'm really proud."

The violinist took charge on the album, creating melodies, chords, and lyrics and finding the right to musicians to work with. Her goal was to take listeners on a conceptual and spiritual journey as humans.

"It's about the challenges we face," Jopling said. "How do we find our inner strengths? I'm trying to uplift myself and everybody else."

Jopling said the answer was to "surrender."

"It's kind of like letting go," Jopling said. "We're sheddings things that are disrupting us and our certain beliefs to where you get to the point of being free and open. It feels like we have an answer and now we get to it. There's this powerful universal energy."

The album has a local flavor, featuring performers from the Hendrick Hudson High School Treblemakers. Jopling started working with them 18 months ago, and five of the singers have solos. They also appear in her music video for the song "Country Hope."

"Living in Peekskill has allowed me to work with young people," Jopling said. "Before I moved to Peekskill, I had never done that before. They were amazing and it's so rewarding for me."

"Awakening" is available at music outlets everywhere. For more information on Jopling, visit .
