PEEKSKILL, N.Y. While the citys farmers' market has been around for years, it continues to grow in popularity.
Farmers' Market manager Marilyn Ettinger said the market, sponsored by the Peekskill Downtown Business Improvement District, already was drawing big crowds to the downtown last Saturday and expected traffic to continue through the summer.
We had the rain but we had over 700 people so this morning were at 862 people and its only 12 p.m. and we still have two more hours to go, she said last Saturday.
The market continues to be a draw after more than 20 years of operation, partly due to new vendors taking part, she said.
We have a meat person thats new, Ettinger said. Its all grass-fed pork and beef, so its healthy and good for you and it tastes delicious. We tried it when we saw them up the line bit in Cold Spring and we got them to come down here.
The market also has a new cheese vendor, a fresh seafood vendor based out of Long Island and several returning favorites, such as a baked goods vendor and several produce vendors.
The market opens at 8:30 a.m. Saturdays and stays open until 2 p.m. Bank Street is closed during the market to allow for pedestrian traffic. The market continues until the Saturday before Thanksgiving.
