Painters Wanted for Vintage Peekskill Mural

PEEKSKILL, N.Y. -- The Field Library is looking for some enthusiastic painters to help create a new mural for the city's downtown, starting on Dec. 7.

The mural, which will be a reproduction of an old city postcard shown above, will be displayed in a small courtyard on the northwest corner of the city. The project is being led by area artist Larry D'Amico and his partner Sone Tower, said library Executive Director Sibyl Canaan.

"He's inviting everybody in town to participate on those dates to take a section and paint it and at some point it will be installed on the side of a building, probably in the spring when the weather is warmer," Cannan said.

D'Amico has previously done work on murals in the children's library and the city courthouse, Cannan said.

The project is a partnership between Arts Westchester, the city and the library, and is being funded by an arts grant.

The painting sessions will be held on Dec. 7, 10, 14 and 17 from noon to 4 p.m. The events will take place at the old library building, located at 901 South St. Participants can stay as long they like.

Those looking to take part in the painting sessions must register by calling Canaan at (914) 737-7110 and must be an adult or a teenager with parent supervision. The image will be enlarged on panels, pre-drawn, and color-coded so even inexperienced painters can come take part.
