Holiday Events Begin This Weekend in Peekskill

PEEKSKILL, NY – The holiday season begins in the city this weekend with the annual city tree lighting on Saturday.

There will eb a free Christmas decorating party at the Field Library in Peekskill from 11 a.m to 1 p.m. Children can come help make holiday ornaments and decorate the library’s trees. Refreshments will be offered. Children of all ages are welcome with adult sepervision. No sign-up is required.

Later in the day the Peekskill Community Choir will be leading holiday carols while revelers wait for Santa’s arrival. Entertainment starts at 4:30 p.m. at the downtown gazebo on Division Street and the tree lighting will take place at 5 p.m.

After lighting the tree, kids can follow Santa to Ford Piano, where Old Saint Nick will give each child a gift and live holiday piano music will be played. Individual pictures can be taken with Santa and hot chocolate and cookies, provided by the Hudson Valley Gateway Chamber of Commerce, top off the evening.

On Dec. 20 there will be a Menorah lighting ceremony at 6:45 p.m. at the gazebo.

The city is also sponsoring a holiday trip to New York City on Dec. 10 to see festive department store windows and displays and the famous tree at Rockefeller Center. A bus will depart Depew Park at 9 a.m. and leave the city at 5 p.m. The fee is $10 per person and must be paid in advance at the recreation office at Depew Park.

Santa will be making phone calls on Dec. 16 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. If your child would like to receive a call from Santa, you must fill out a registration form at the recreation office by Dec. 12.
