There's Plenty to Do in Peekskill This Weekend

PEEKSKILL, N.Y. -- There are plenty of festive holiday events going on this weekend in the city.

The Peekskill Trolley Company is offering holiday tours of the city on Friday at 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. and again on Sunday at 6:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. Riders are encouraged to sing along to holiday tunes as they tour the neighborhoods looking for the best decorated house and downtown store window. The tours will conclude with hot chocolate at the Bean Runner Cafe where folks can also vote on which house and downtown window they think are the best decorated. Tours start in front of the Beanrunner Cafe at the corner of South Division and Ester Streets. For ticket prices and more information, go to www.Peekskilltrolleycompany.com.

On Saturday morning you can take the kids to have breakfast with Santa at Burger King at 2040 Main Street from 8 to 11 a.m. The store will be offering 10 percent off all children’s breakfast meals.

On Saturday, the Peekskill Elks lodge will hold their bi-monthly indoor farmer's market on Saturday at their Brown Street location from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. For more information, contact Ed Lounsbury at (914) 737-0744 or at bpoe744@optimum.net.

On Saturday night, seven of Peekskill’s downtown dining establishments will be participating in a downtown “Pub and Grub Crawl”, the final event in the BID’s “Peekskill Makes Me Merry” Saturdays holiday promotion. Holiday revelers will be transported, free of charge courtesy of the BID, from stop to stop by the Peekskill Trolley, which is all decked out for the holidays. The pub crawl begins at 7 p.m. but Stella will start picking folks up at 6:30 p.m.

Many of the participating venues will have live entertainment that night. For example, The Beanrunner Café will have a “Very Gypsy Christmas” CD release party for Jazz guitar virtuoso Doug Munro and his band, which features 15 Gypsy Jazz versions of Christmas favorites. The show starts at 7:30 p.m. and tickets are $10.

12 Grapes will have Steve Wexler and the Top Shelf, 10-piece jazz band. Show starts at 9:30 p.m. and admission is $15 or $10 with a dinner entrée.

On Sunday, the BeanRunner will feature “The 12 Days of Shopping” - a musical comedy sketch about the holidays with Lin Snider and Sally Sherwood. A tradition among fans, it contains a tutorial on gift selection, a "must" in today's economy. The show starts at 4 p.m. and tickets are $12.
