Bremner, a registered dietitian with a BS in Communications from Cornell University and a Masters in Nutrition Education from Teachers College at Columbia University, will be the next guest of Northern Westchester Hospital’s “Speaker Series” on Wednesday, Nov. 20 from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Tickets are $10 per person.

Sharing her expertise with her community is one of her passions.

“The great thing about good nutrition is it puts so much control in our hands and mouths,” she said. “We literally have the power to alter our destiny where health is concerned. This is what makes my job so fulfilling.”

Bremner will talk about the links between food and optimal performance in both scholastic and athletic endeavors, including the roles of hydration and vitamins.

She will also delve into facts and recommendations regarding sports drinks, energy drinks, caffeine, and protein powders as well as provide tips to help children manage stress, boost energy, and enhance brain-power. Her specialty is practical nutrition, which through NWH, she practices first-hand providing nutrition education and cooking classes to children and teens throughout Westchester County.

Bremner holds a Certificate of Training in Childhood and Adolescent Weight Management as well as a Certificate of Training in Prevention Strategies for Childhood Obesity. She stresses that proper nutrition is particularly vital for school-age children.

“Making healthy choices is particularly important for school-age children,” she said. “Their bodies and brains are developing at a rapid pace. They need more calories, and are planting the seed for future health with every bite.”

NWH’s Speaker Series provides an intimate experience with the hospital’s staff as its experts speak on topics that they know best. Each segment provides an opportunity to learn how you can take control of your family's health and wellness and how the hospital can serve your needs.
