Ensler, known for her groundbreaking play "The Vagina Monologues," created "Emotional Creature" based on interviews with teens and young women around the world. The result is a collage of monologues, chat sessions, spoken word and songs about body image, dieting, sex, abortion, relationships and more. The cast, made up of high school and young college women from Peekskill and the surrounding area, features Alyssa Acevedo, Emrigael Alpern, Paige Hill, Erica Joyce, Kelly O'Connor, Corinne Salicco and Charlotte Wittmann.
Director Katie Schmidt Feder is the co-founder of Embark Peekskill and a director, choreographer, performer and designer with 30 years in the industry. A member of Actors Equity Association, she has been part of the Lincoln Center Directors Lab and Ensemble Studio Theatre Actor Director Lab in New York City.
Embark co-founder and co-producer of "Emotional Creatures" is Sol Miranda. She is an actor, director and producer with 25-plus years in the industry. She is a member of AEA & SAG-AFTRA. Sol produced and directed the first two shows in the Women’s Series, "The Mending Monologues" and "Los Monólogos de la Vagina." Her performances include New York City opera, off-Broadway, regional theater and performances in Europe and Puerto Rico.
The show will be on at 8 p.m. Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday. Tickets for adults cost $20 while tickets for seniors, students and Embark members are $15. Tickets can be purchased at www.emotionalcreature.brownpapertickets.com and the door. The show is appropriate for ages 13 and older; children under 16 require an accompanying parent or guardian.
