Kathleen's Tea Room, an English-style tea room, was selected by Business Connect and Party Planners West to serve as one of the caterers for the VIP Tailgate Party at MetLife Stadium.
Kathleen’s will serve 1,500 individually baked, miniature blueberry pies at the party, which takes place prior to kick-off, and is attended by NFL professionals, coaches, families and other high profile guests. The blueberry is the state fruit of New Jersey.
“I’m beyond proud to have been selected and will be treating these thousands of pies just like we treat everything that comes out of our kitchen, with TLC and attention to flavor and detail,” said McKenzie. “They saw something special in us to choose us, and we are going to represent New York well at the Super Bowl.”
McKenzie said she is really excited to showcase her business.
"As a small business owner, this is a huge opportunity," McKenzie. "I am always an advocate for Peekskill."
McKenzie said her blueberry pie is "excellent" using a homemade recipe with a crumble top. While she said she is not a football fan, she is excited for the Super Bowl.
"If there is any game I am going to watch, it's that game," McKenzie said. "You can feel the momentum of the Super Bowl being in this area. This is a huge opportunity for New York and New Jersey."
McKenzie has owned Kathleen's for more than three years, serving 60 different loose teas. The restaurant makes its own scones, croissants, soups, salads and sandwiches, and caters parties.
"I am hoping this gives us some recognition and downtown some recognition," McKenzie said.
To celebrate the Super Bowl and the Tea Room’s VIP status, Kathleen’s will be serving its special blueberry pies throughout the month of February.
