Peekskill Paramount Working On Ticket Refund Issue

PEEKSKILL, N.Y. ? The Paramount Center for the Arts' announcement Wednesday that it would temporarily close for financial reasons left unanswered the question of how  ticket refunds might be handled. 

Paramount Chairman Vinnie Vesce said questions about refunds had not been dealt with.

“The best thing I can say right now is that we are actively working on a solution to our situation,” Vesce said.

Further information on refunds will posted on the Paramount’s website at a later time, Vesce said.

The theater was built as a 1,500-seat movie theater by Paramount Pictures and opened in June of 1930. Paramount sold the building in 1973, and was acquired by the city in 1977 on a tax default. It has operated as a performing arts center in various incarnations since.

Vesce said he hoped the Paramount would resume operations in the near future.

“This is not the total death of the Paramount," he said. "We want to reach a solution, a reorganization that could bring the Paramount back to Peekskill as it was.”

The city owns the building, but operations are handled by a non-profit that has also been responsible for recent renovations to the theater. The Paramount's board of directors is considering options to get the venue up and running again. But Vesce said he did not want to speculate about the possibility of bringing in private investors or a bankruptcy organization.

“I think it would be premature to comment on that at this point,” Vesce said. “It has been a very difficult day and a difficult few weeks leading up to today.”
