Shortly after 3 a.m. on Thursday, April 27, police in Orangetown stopped 23-year-old New City resident Alim Scarpelli on Main Street in Nyack for a traffic violation, and during the subsequent stop, reported that he had a strong odor of alcohol on his breath, bloodshot eyes and was slurring his speech.

According to police, Scarpelli consented to numerous Standardized Field Sobriety Tests, all of which he failed. He was arrested at the scene and transported to Orangetown Police Headquarters, where he consented to a breathalyzer test, which determined his blood alcohol content was more than twice the legal limit.

Scarpelli was arrested for driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor. He was processed and released on his own recognizance. He is due back in Orangetown Justice Court on Tuesday, May 16.
