The arrest came about when the suspect, identified as Clayton Soto, was stopped by police in the parking lot of the Orangetown Shopping Center in Orangeburg on Oct. 4, according to police.
Soto was acting erratic, had the odor of an alcoholic beverage and poor motor control, police said.
Soto failed numerous field sobriety tests at the scene and was taken into custody, according to police.
After being transported to Orangetown police headquarters, he consented to and failed a breath test; Soto’s blood alcohol content was more than twice the legal limit, police said.
The defendant has been charged with aggravated DWI, a misdemeanor, according to police.
He was released and is due back in Orangetown Justice Court to answer the charge on Tuesday, Oct. 18, police said.
