The arrest came about when police responded to the report of a possible dispute at a residence in Nyack on Nov. 13, according to police.
The suspect, identified as Shavell Griffin, was allegedly involved in an argument with a female, and at some point the dispute became physical, police said.
Griffin allegedly struck the female about the head and body, then displayed a hammer and threatened her with it, according to police.
Police arrived at the scene and took Griffin into custody; he has been charged with second-degree menacing, a misdemeanor, and second-degree harassment, a violation, police said.
Following his arraignment, the defendant was remanded to the Rockland County Jail, according to police.
He is due back in Nyack Justice Court to answer the charges, police said.
