On Tuesday, May 2, police in Orangetown received information that a taxi cab had been stolen out of New York City and that the vehicle may be in the area of Palisades. Upon further investigation, officers reported that they spotted the cab in the rear parking lot of the 9W Market.
According to police, when officers approached the vehicle, 47-year-old Bronx resident Tiffany Felder jumped out of the driver’s seat of the taxi and attempted to flee. Following a brief foot pursuit, Felder then fought with the arresting officers, but was eventually placed into custody.
Police said that when Felder exited the vehicle and attempted to flee, he left the transmission in drive and it struck a parked vehicle in the lot. Felder allegedly gave officers a false name and date of birth, though his true identity was ultimately determined, and police reported that his driving privileges had been suspended. He was arrested and transported to Orangetown Police Headquarters, where police said that he continued to be competitive and began to spit and urinate in the jail cells.
Felder was charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, a felony, and misdemeanor counts of resisting arrest, unauthorized use of a vehicle, criminal mischief, false personification, criminal tampering and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle. He was also charged with harassment, a violation.
Felder was arraigned and transported to Rockland County Jail in lieu of $20,000 bail. He is due back in court later this year.
