Tappan Zee Bridge Project Prepares For Snowstorm

ORANGETOWN, N.Y. -- Construction continues as the weather permits on the Tappan Zee Bridge as a possible snowstorm with blizzard conditions approaches the area, according to the New York Thruway Authority.

Tappan Zee Bridge construction may be put on hold this weekend as a snowstorm approaches the area.

As the storm gets closer on Saturday and possible blizzard conditions, including up to 12 inches of snow, develop in the vicinity of the Tappan Zee Bridge, it may limit some operations at the project site over the coming weekend.

Scheduled operations will be carefully reviewed before crews begin work to help ensure the continued safety of the public and the project team. Tappan Zee Constructors' inclement weather preparations include inspecting and adjusting all mooring lines, inspecting crane barges and securing all equipment, having tugboats on the water to provide rapid response, moving the large majority of cranes to shallow-water moorings and taking all smaller-crew boats out of the water.

In addition, as weather permits, land-side crews will continue constructing noise barriers along the New York State Thruway (I-87/I-287) in South Nyack. The operation includes continuing the construction of noise barrier foundations along the southbound Thruway between the South Broadway bridge and River Road.
