Linda Rose Famelico, 59, and Aniello Famelico, 60, were arraigned Thursday, May 5 in Orangetown on several felony charges, including third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance and fourth- and fifth-degree criminal possession, according to Rockland County District Attorney Thomas P. Zugibe.
"We have seen a huge rise in the use and abuse of prescription painkillers in our region," Zugibe said. "Shutting down sources such as alleged in this case will save lives.”
Aniello Famelico was released on $7,500 bail while Linda Rose Famelico is being held without bail, according to lohud.com.
Authorities recovered close to 2,000 prescription pills, several pounds of marijuana, drug paraphernalia, $18,000 in cash, among other items, from their Courtland Gardens apartment. During the investigation, authorities often saw young people coming and going from the couple's home, lohud.com says.
Rockland Task Force Director Christopher Goldrick said it's disturbing that the couple would ignore the devastating effects drugs have on young people given that they are grandparents, according to lohud.com. The couple have 10 grandchildren, according to lohud.com.
“These arrests underscore our commitment to improve the quality of life for the residents of Rockland County," Zugibe said. "They should serve as a warning to other drug dealers that our law enforcement community will continue to aggressively track down those who traffic in prescription drugs and seek to put them in prison.”
The investigation was conducted by the Rockland County Drug Task Force, the Orangetown Police Department uniform patrol and detective bureau, Zugibe said.
