Ward presented the flag on Tuesday, Dec. 1 to County Executive Ed Day: "Watching the Stars and Stripes fly above our community brings an overwhelming sense of pride in our great nation. We appreciate Ms. Ward's dedication to our residents and our veterans, past and present."
Day said that Ward saw that the U.S. flag in front of the County courthouse was showing signs of wear and she donated funds to buy a new flag. Even though the county routinely change the flags as they wear out, she insisted on doing her part, Day added.
Not wanting to draw attention to herself, or any further acknowledgment, the flag was raised during a quiet ceremony.
