Nyack Area Features Lots To Do This Weekend

NYACK, N.Y. -- There are lot of things to in the Nyack area this weekend.

Here’s a list (but in light to the impending snowstorm, it’s best to check each event’s status before you head out the door):

Friday

  • Alfred Hitchcock Presents 2 One Acts directed by Richard Quinn. 8-10 p.m. at Nyack Village Theater, 94 Main St.
  • “Harvey,” a comedy about a middle-aged eccentric whose best friend is an invisible creature resembling a 6-foot rabbit, will be presented at the Elmwood Playhouse Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m., and Sunday at 2 p.m. 10 Park St.
  • “Unnecessary Farce,” a comedy by Paul Slade Smith, will be presented at 8 p.m. the Antrim Playhouse on Friday and Saturday. 15 Spook Rock Road, Suffern.
  • Beardscomb will perform at 7 p.m. at Castle Inn, 16 S. Main St., New City.
  • The Bear Mountain skating rink is open. Adults $5; folks ages 4-22, $4. Check its website for hours. Bear Mountain State Park.
  • The Nyack Window Project through Sunday, Jan. 31, pairs visual artists with landlords to create original installations in storefront windows. It was conceived by award-winning set designer and Nyack resident Joanne Howard.

Saturday

  • Wolf Moon Hike: Join park staff for a 2-mile trek on moderate terrain. Bring flashlights. 7 p.m. at State Line Lookout Area, Alpine, N.J.
  • “Backpack Full of Cash” will be presented by Rivertown Film. The film explores the growing privatization of public schools and the resulting impact on America’s most vulnerable children. 8 p.m. at Nyack Center, 58 Depew Ave.
  • For soul, funk, and more, catch Doc Lane & Loose Change at 9 p.m. at Casa del Sol, 104 Main St., Nyack.
  • Work by artist William Rauschenberg will be displayed at the Edward Hopper House Art Center. His recent series, "In Shadow," an exploration of Edward Hopper’s themes, can be seen from 5-7 p.m. at the center, 82 N. Broadway.

Sunday

  •  “Life After Life in Prison,” a photo exhibit. Opening reception. Meet photographer Sara Bennett and hear the four women who are the subjects of the exhibit talk about their experiences inside and outside prison. 2 p.m., Nyack Center, 58 Depew Ave.
