Piermont's Ned Kelly Combines His Passions With Restaurants, Design Shop

PIERMONT, N.Y. -- Ned Kelly has a twist on the saying, "Don't quit your day job." His is: "Don't quite your night job."

Ned Kelly works at both the Xaviars Restaurant empire as well as his own Piermont shop.

That's because the Congers resident -- yes, the brother of famed Rockland restauranteur Peter X. Kelly -- works at the Xaviars Empire, as he calls it, constantly circling between the restaurants (often at night) and his own business, Piermont-based Ned Kelly & Co. (usually by day).

The Piermont shop is 14 years old and expanded (and doubled!) its size five years ago.

And while tabletop, home decor, flowers and gift items remain its main focus, there is always something new being added. Recently Kelly added a line of women's fashions and accessories from the New York-bbased company, Lafayette 148.

Kelly said customers may be surprised to know how much the shop does that you don't see on the floor.

"Our design services are a large part of what we do, both for home and events," he said.

The bonus: the shop's large garden, which can accommodate from 40 to 60 for everything from birthday parties to small weddings.

Another unexpected store surprise: the rotating artwork by local tristate artists, which are for sale.

Despite Kelly's constant state of busy -- he's crazed now working on the Xaviars Holiday show at X20 in Yonkers which runs the two weekends before Christmas -- he said he enjoys slowing down for one to one appointments with clients.

"As someone who loves the excitement of interacting with a variety of people and places I seem to have built a world perfectly suited to my passions," he said. "The greatest joy comes when I can share it all with my customers and clients."

Ned Kelly & Co. is located at 458 Piermont Ave., (845) 359-4480, www.nedkellyandco.com/.
