Orange County resident Jorge L. Tapia-Ramirez, age 46, of Middletown, was charged around 7 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 20 in the town of Wallkill. According to Trooper Steven Nevel, of the New York State Police, the department received multiple 911 calls reporting an erratic driver in a white 2019 Chevrolet Express van on I-84 in Wallkill. Orange County resident Tyrone Burkes, age 33, was arrested on Thursday, July 15, in the City of Newburgh during a traffic stop, said New York State Police Trooper Steven Nevel. According to Nevel, Burks was a passenger in a vehicle during a traffic stop on Farrington Street in the city of Newburgh.  He attempted to flee the scene on foot. Robert Higgins, 25, of Highland Mills, was sentenced in Orange County Court to a term of between one and two-third to five years in prison after pleading guilty to vehicular manslaughter and driving while intoxicated in October last year. Judge Williams DeProspo set April 4 for the start of jury selection for Nicholas McAteer, 46, of Greenwood Lake, who faces an 82-count indictment in Orange County Court. He was arrested in August and indicted in October 2017. McAteer, who is free on $25,000 bail, is accused of raping one victim in 2003 and 2007 and then groped her in 2016.
