An injured barred owl was given much-needed help from police in Westchester County. On Wednesday, Jan. 18, the Greenburgh Police Department's animal control unit responded to an injured bird that had ended up in front of a business in Ardsley. There, they found a "beautiful" barred owl with an injury to its eye, police said. The owl sustained an injury to its eye, police said. Video: Police Help Hawk Fly Free After It Crashes Into Westchester Home
A hawk that accidentally crashed through the window of a Westchester County home was saved thanks to the help of police officers who knew just what to do. On Monday, Jan. 2, the bird of prey flew into a home in Greenburgh, leading the homeowner to call police for help, Greenburgh police said. After arriving at the house, officers were able to throw a blanket over the distressed bird and carry it back outside. Karma came back to bite a hungry hawk who found itself in a precarious position after getting caught in a chicken coop in the Hudson Valley. New York State Department of Environmental Conservation officers recently came to the aid of a hawk in distress after it got caught in a chicken coop at a home in the village of Brewster in Putnam County. A bear cub who had a plastic chicken feeder bucket stuck on its head was recently rescued by state Environmental Conservation officers. The adventure to help the little cub began on Thursday, July 1, when the department received a call from a resident in Greene County in the hamlet of Round Top about a black bear cub with what appeared to be a bucket stuck on its head. Four Baby Squirrels Rescued After Tails Found Stuck Together In Hudson Valley
Four baby squirrels found tied together by their tails were rescued by a wildlife officer after receiving a report of the squirrels in distress. The babies were discovered in Dutchess County last month when the state Department of Environmental Conservation responded to the call from the hamlet of Verbank, in the town of Union Vale. A black bear that was injured and unresponsive after being hit by a vehicle was rescued by a team of responders from several agencies. The incident happened in Dutchess County on Thursday night, April 23 on Route 44 in Pleasant Valley. The bear, though unresponsive, had no obvious external wounds and appeared to have been struck by a motor vehicle, state police from the Poughkeepsie barracks said.
