Active Shooter Drill Held At Carmel's Chuang Yen Monastery Although it looked like a real response, an influx of emergency agencies and police at a Hudson Valley monastery was only a drill to prepare for an active shooter scenario.  The exercise was held in Putnam County on Sunday, April 21 at the Chuang Yen Monastery in Carmel at 2020 Route 301, according to the Carmel Fire Department.  During the drill, which was hosted by the Kent Fire Department, several local, county, and regional agencies acted as if there were an active shooter with "victims" played by volunteers.  After the exercise was complete, the agencies then gathe…

35-Year-Old Northern Westchester Man Dies In Crash After Hitting Pole A 35-year-old man from Northern Westchester was killed after his vehicle struck a pole and overturned in the Hudson Valley. The crash happened in Putnam County on Wednesday, Aug. 30 around 4 p.m. when an SUV traveling east on Route 301 in Carmel in the area of Gipsy Trail Road veered off the roadway, hit a pole, and flipped over, according to Carmel Police Lt. Know Her? Abandoned Beagle Seen Being Pushed Out Of Jeep In Area The Putnam County SPCA is seeking information regarding the abandonment of an adult female beagle.  On Tuesday, Dec. 1, around 1 p.m., a delivery driver observed an individual push the dog out of an older model, Black Jeep Wrangler onto the side of Route 301, in the Town of Carmel, said the SPCA.
