Fairfield County entrepreneur, philanthropist, and founder of the Caldor department store chain, Carl Bennett, has died at the age of 101.
Bennett died at his home in Greenwich on Thursday, Dec. 23.
The Caldor empire came to be while working with his late wife, Dorothy Bennett, who together turned an $8,000 military salary savings into a chain of discount department stores that spanned from the 1950s to the mid-1980s when he sold his 120 store business to Associated Dry Goods.

As first responders continue their search for any survivors of a 12-story condo that collapsed in Surfside, Florida, local residents are holding out hope that a former resident who is among the missing will be found.
Judy Spiegel, age 65, a Long Island native from Plainview who later lived in Southampton, as well as in Westchester County, in Ardsley, is one of the 152 still listed as missing, officials said.

A much-beloved restaurant owner and philanthropist in Fairfield County has died.
Dimitrios Paschalidis, age 80, died Thursday, April 1, at his home in Norwalk.
He was born August 20, 1940, in the northern village of Saint Dimitrios, Kozani, Greece.
The co-owner of Dimitri’s Diner and Gyro on Pita, both in Ridgefield, Paschalidis died after surgery performed due to aggressive cancer, according to Dimitri's staff.
