Sexually Transmitted Diseases Spread Rapidly In Putnam, Hitting Record High Cases of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) continue to rise in Putnam County and across the nation, health department officials warned on Wednesday, April 4. Last year, gonorrhea cases in rose in Putnam -- by nearly 60 percent -- with an increase from 17 to 27 reported cases from 2016.  At the same time both chlamydia and syphilis numbers remained relatively stable, after a dramatic rise of 125 percent in syphilis the year before, officials said in a news statement.
