Mom Intentionally Drove Son Into Connecticut Lake In Murder/Suicide, Police Say Police have determined that a mother “intentionally drove” into a Connecticut lake, killing herself and her son who was a passenger. The incident took place on Friday, July 31, when Connie Crowell, age 54, of Monroe, and her passenger and son John Crowell, age 22, both died due to drowning when she drove an SUV into the Housatonic Lake in western New Haven County in the Town of Seymour, on Roosevelt Drive. Fairfield County Areas Near North Salem Tops In State For Bear Sightings Once a rare sight, the black bear is making a comeback in Fairfield County -- and statewide. The Connecticut State Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) reported that a total of 7,493 black bear sightings have been reported in Connecticut in the past year, from Aug. 10, 2017 to Aug. 5 of this year, including hundreds in Fairfield County. Police Chase Through Area Ends With Home Invasion A wild police chase that started in Newtown and continued through Bridgeport ended with a crash, a foot chase and a home invasion, according to Connecticut State Police. The incident began around 6:45 p.m. Monday when Troop A was notified by the Bridgeport and Newtown police departments that they were in pursuit of a 2014 white Honda Accord that was wanted for transporting firearms, state police said. But then again, considering the way this winter has gone, maybe not. The Nor'easter that moved through the area overnight Monday into Tuesday did result in bands of heavy snow -- and in some parts of the area, significant accumulation. Newtown Mom Laura Schrader Dies After Battling Brain Cancer, 46 Laura Schrader of Newtown died at home with her family March 7 after a three-year battle with brain cancer. She was 46 years old. Laura was born in Delaware on May 1, 1971 to David and Barbara Harlacker. She moved to Monroe in 1977.  Laura graduated from Masuk High School in 1989 and was in the National Honor Society. She graduated from Lehigh University in 1993 with a degree in engineering and was a member of the Alpha Chi Omega sorority.  Laura worked professionally at Clairol, Bristol Meyers Squibb and Dade Behring. She earned her MBA degree from the University of Connecticut in 2001. …
