Car Slips Into Lake In Northern Westchester Amid Icy, Flooded Conditions
A vehicle had to be pulled out of a lake in Northern Westchester after falling into it in the midst of icy and flooded conditions. The incident happened in Pound Ridge on Friday, Jan. 27 around 8:20 a.m., when a vehicle traveling on Siscowit Road fell into a lake by Eastwoods Road, according to Pound Ridge Police. Luckily, the driver was able to get herself out of the vehicle and was unharmed. However, her car became completely submerged and had to be towed out. A storm system that will bring a mix of snow, ice and rain to the region will follow a return to more seasonable temperatures. Milder air arrives on Thursday, Jan. 23, which will be mostly cloudy with a high temperature in the mid 40s and wind-chill values between 25 and 35 degrees. Friday, Jan. 24 will be partly sunny with a high temperature in the low to mid 40s. Man Charged In Fatal Hit-Run Among Three Putnam Inmates Released Under Criminal Justice Reforms
A man accused in a fatal hit-and-run crash is among three suspects incarcerated on pending criminal charges in Putnam released under new criminal justice reforms that took effect on Wednesday, Jan. 1, County Sheriff Robert L. Langley Jr. said. Among those released was 40-year-old Javier Lorenzano-Fercano, who was charged with leaving the scene of a fatal automobile accident, a Class D felony. Cause Of Death Determined For Westchester Woman Found Dead In Suitcase In Greenwich
The Connecticut state medical examiner released an official cause of death for a Westchester woman found dead in a red suitcase on the side of a road in Fairfield County in February. On Monday, May 6, the state medical examiner said the official cause of death for Valerie Reyes, 24, of New Rochelle, was "homicidal asphyxia," and the manner of death was a homicide. An Orange County man will spend the next two decades in prison for enticing a teenage girl from Westchester into sexual activity, which was captured on video. Clint Edwards, 28, of New Windsor, has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for enticing a child to engage in illegal sexual activity. Six people were arrested Friday in a Westchester hub of a massive $1 million cell phone fraud scheme uncovered by an ICE task force. The six are part of 12 people busted by ICE and Homeland Security, following a long-term investigation into the scheme that operated a hub out of a Mount Vernon apartment, according to ICE officials. Update: U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is holding a twice-deported suspect in a 14-month-old upstate boy's disappearance and his mother's death that prompted an Amber Alert on Friday, May 25.
