A months-long operation into a local narcotics trafficking organization in Northern Fairfield County resulted in four arrests and the seizure of large amounts of drugs and cash, police said. Westchester Native Douglas Vane, Longtime Police Sergeant, Dies
A Westchester native who was a longtime police officer in Northern Fairfield County has died. He was 75. Retired Brookfield Police Department Sergeant Douglas Neil Vane, a native of Yonkers, died peacefully at Danbury Hospital on Thursday, Aug. 13. After serving as an MP in the U.S. Army, Vane worked as a police officer for 35 years, served as Chief of the Candlewood Lake Patrol and served an additional 5 years as a special officer, according to the Brookfield Police Department. Lost Apple Watches Recovered In Candlewood Lake
Police officers who were training at Candlewood Lake made a special save this week. While conducting training operations at the lake, members of the Brookfield Police Department unearthed two missing Apple watches under approximately 25 feet of water, police said. Once the watches were located, it was determined that they were still operational, even after being lost at sea for two weeks. The watches have since been returned to their owners, police said.

The body of a teen who went missing while swimming in Candlewood Lake in New Milford has been recovered, according to New Milford Mayor Pete Bass. Joshua DaSilva, 17, of New Milford, who went missing while swimming with friends on Monday, May 27, was recovered by the New Milford Police Department and the Newtown Underwater Search and Rescue, said New Milford Police Lt. This story has been updated. A 24-year-old man was hit by a police car as he was running from federal immigration authorities who were attempting to arrest him. The incident unfolded Friday morning at the Danbury Superior Court where Samuel Cruz of Danbury was appearing in court on assault and disorderly conduct charges in connection with a domestic violence case, said Danbury Police Sgt.
