Tiger Tracksters Ready for State Meets

On a day when most sought shelter from the sun and heat, members of the North Salem High School track team were out on the oval, putting the finishing touches on their preparations for the Section 1 state qualifying meets on Thursday and Friday. The top finisher from those competitions, to be held at Arlington and White Plains High Schools, will go on to the state championship the following weekend.

The Tigers have made great strides in just a few years under the guidance of coaches John Davis and Damien Holst. When the two took over the program, there were barely a dozen team members -- now, there are that many state qualifiers from a squad that has more than 50 on the roster.

There has been a rise in quality as well as quantity. Brenna Brown is ranked No. 1 in the state in the heptathlon, and Noemie Bechu is ranked third in the 400-meter run.
