Every year as a fundraiser for the school, the students can purchase carnations and write notes to their friends at school. Last year, due to a snow day going into their February break, 650 carnations were not able to be delivered, so some West Patent parents called NWH offering to donate the flowers to the patients.
They replaced the notes with "Happy Valentine's Day, from your friends at WPES," and their kids were able to hand-deliver the flowers. They were so well-received that the organizers decided to make it an annual event.
This year, the students had the option of purchasing flowers for friends or for patients at the hospital. One hundred fifty carnations were purchased and handed out this year to patients and staff, along with personal notes to the patients of get-well wishes.
