PQ Spring Gala: Good Food, Great Fun and Grand Gifts

NORTH SALEM, N.Y. – It is going to be hard to make choices at Friday night’s Pequenakonck School PTO Spring Gala.

For one thing, the list of live and silent auction items is long. Add a cocktail hour with passed hors d’oeuvres, beer, wine and soft drinks, followed by a buffet dinner with your choice of carved beef, assorted pasta dishes, Asian specialties and an assortment of desserts.

All the while you can enjoy the music of deejay Joey C and take a few spins around the dance floor as you take your chances on some tempting auction items. There is a New York Giants' jersey autographed by Eli Manning, for example, and a weekend getaway for four to Disney/Orlando, front row seats for a Jets game, two tickets to the David Letterman Show, two tickets to the Rachael Ray Show, four tickets to Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, a year of complimentary DirectTV service, a day at the Adam Broderick Salon & Spa and more.

Closer to home, there are dozens of items donated by PQ students and their teachers, such as an afternoon at Muscoot Farm with Mrs. Lodewick and her daughter, Ryan, trail hikes with Mr. And Mrs. Fuller, tutoring sessions with Mrs. Breslow and more.

Also available are a personal telephone conversation with Jeff Kinney, author of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series, lunch with School District Superintendent Ken Freeston or with Representative Nan Hayworth and a three-course dinner for four at Purdy’s Farmer & the Fish.

The PQ PTO sponsors many extracurricular activities at the elementary school, such as the annual father/daughter and mother/son events, special student assemblies, after-school enrichment programs and field trips. Last year, the PTO helped to make up a $10,000 deficit in the annual school budget.

Friday evening’s festivities start at 7 p.m. at the Salem Golf Club, 18 Bloomer Road, North Salem. “Cocktail Attire” is suggested. Tickets at the door are $65 per person. A cash bar will be available all evening.
