North Salem Will Hold Mini Pumpkin Blaze

NORTH SALEM, N.Y. - Sharpen up your knives and your artistic skills. North Salem has a Pumpkin Carving Competition coming up and the winner will receive 50/50 prize money.

The aim is to raise money for the PQ fifth grade class, to help fund the various social activities that PQ “seniors” traditionally undertake during their last year at the school. These include the November survivor social (a series of physical and mental competitions) at PQ, the February indoor social (basketball and swimming) at Green Chimneys and the June DJ social at PQ.

The year winds up with a breakfast for the students and their parents and teachers in June. A highlight of the morning is a slide show, featuring pictures of the class from its earliest days in kindergarten right through to its fifth-grade graduation.

To enter the carving contest, you must register before October 21.  Contact Jennifer Fogle, j.fogle@comcast.net. The fee is $5. Do your creative work at home and bring your pumpkin to the Outhouse Orchards on Friday, October 28. Bring your family and friends to vote. Votes cost $1 each, six votes for $5. Voting will take place from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Need a pumpkin? Outhouse is offering discounts for entrants: $1 off sugar pumpkins, $2 off large pumpkins.
