NORTH SALEM, N.Y. – Tuesday, May 15, is Election Day in North Salem. Registered voters will be asked to cast yes or no ballots on the 2012-13 school budget and to choose two of the three candidates running to serve three-year terms on the Board of Education.
The candidates are incumbents Judith Schurmacher and Paul Giamundo and challenger William Papp. Serving on the school board is an unpaid position.

The Board of Education is presenting a $39,253,271 budget for 2012-13. It keeps within New York State’s mandated 2 percent tax levy cap and maintains all school programs.
In addition to the proposed budget, voters will be asked to vote on Proposition #2 to allow for the purchase of 10 buses, replacement of boilers at the middle/high school, upgrades to generators at the elementary and middle schools and the installation of a generator at the high school.
Registered voters may cast their ballots at Pequenakonck Elementary School, 173 June Road, North Salem. The polls are open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.
