NORTH SALEM, N.Y. - North Salem Teachers' Association president Henry Sassone reached out to faculty and staff Monday to inform them about vandalism at North Salem High School.

"It has come to my attention that some time between last night and this morning, students were given access to the building and grounds to perform their senior pranks," he wrote. "There is much rumor and speculation out there about administrators giving custodians permission for kids access to the school campus.  First and foremost, I want to make sure that this was not the case because there are professionals throughout the building who are outraged about what has happened.  I spoke at length with a grounds crew member who showed me the donuts that were made on the field hockey, soccer and baseball fields with either a car or 4 wheel drive vehicle.  Remember back in the fall we wanted to arrest kids from Brewster for doing the exact same thing?  So I think the answer I need for the NSTA is first to find out if permission was given.  If permission was not given, how are we going to deal with who caused this destruction?  Are the cameras working outside?  If permission was given by administrators to custodians for kids to gain access, then I think that is a bigger problem.   I thought we crossed this path last year and we were told that kids would not be given access again.  Apparently students slept here overnight in tents, women's undergarments were hung.  There is rumor that there was alcohol and drug use throughout the evening.  We need to address this ASAP to either quell the rumors or to deal with what has happened."
